A Maine woman told authorities she awoke in the early morning hours to a horrifying attack: her son allegedly striking her with a 25-pound weight plate before forcing her to leave with him in a vehicle.
Nathan Lagasse, 27, is facing several charges, including multiple counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping and obstructing justice, according to Penobscot County Jail records reviewed by Law&Crime. He was booked into the jail on Friday.
During Lagasse’s court appearance Friday, his attorney said the defendant had described his mother as “psychotic” and claimed he used pliers in self-defense, according to the local outlet.
A judge set Lagasse’s bail at $50,000, ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation and scheduled his next court appearance for Dec. 8.
Old Town is located in central Maine, roughly 140 miles northeast of Portland.
