GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A 61-year-old man was arrested late Friday night after police say he tried to get into an occupied apartment at The Point Apartments.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, officers were called to the complex at 3100 SW 35th Place at about 11:59 p.m. on June 13. The resident told police she was awakened by a loud bang at her rear sliding glass door and then saw Criston Scott Worth Scanland standing outside.
The woman told investigators that Scanland said she needed to be out of the apartment by 7 a.m. She also reported that he said, “One shot, one kill,” while pulling on the door handle in what police described as an attempt to open the door.
After being advised of his rights, Scanland allegedly admitted he had gone to his neighbor’s back door. Police said he later became uncooperative and began giving vulgar answers to questions, apparently in an effort to be funny.
Scanland was charged with attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling. Court records show he has two felony convictions, both listed as violent, and one non-violent misdemeanor conviction. He is also on probation in a 2024 vehicle burglary case.
