Probationer Arrested After Butcher Knife Shatters Vehicle Window

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Anaria Da’jeonia Goss, 23, was taken into custody early yesterday morning after police said she threw a large butcher knife at a vehicle, breaking its rear window.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, an officer was called to Candlelight Estates Mobile Home Park at about 5:08 a.m. on July 28. The victim told police that Goss, described as his on-and-off girlfriend, saw him driving in the area and began arguing with him. He said she then picked up a large butcher knife and hurled it at the back window of his vehicle, causing the glass to shatter. Goss also allegedly kicked one of the vehicle’s doors.

The responding officer wrote that the knife likely could have caused great bodily harm if it had struck the victim.

Police later contacted Goss at her residence. She reportedly told officers that she and the victim had previously been in a relationship but were no longer together. After being read her Miranda rights, Goss reportedly said she did not remember anything about damaging the victim’s vehicle.

A witness reportedly supported the victim’s account, telling police that Goss ran after the victim’s car from her home while holding a knife. The witness said he attempted to calm her down, but when the victim pulled into a parking lot to figure out what was happening, Goss ran toward him. As the victim tried to drive away, she allegedly chased the vehicle down the road and threw the knife, shattering the rear window.

Goss has been charged with throwing a deadly missile at a vehicle. Court and arrest records note that she has a juvenile history from 2017 to 2019 and six adult misdemeanor convictions, all listed as non-violent. She is currently on probation for stalking. Judge Meshon Rawls set her bail at $15,000 and ordered a mental health evaluation.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
