CHICAGO (WLS) — A reward is being offered to anyone with information after a woman was fatally shot during an attempted robbery last week on the Southwest Side of Chicago.

Chicago police said the attack happened in the Bridgeport neighborhood’s 800-block of West 27th Street around 8:40 p.m. last Saturday.

According to police, a 31-year-old woman was outside when a suspect in a dark-colored sedan approached and shot her. The suspect, whose age is unknown, was reportedly part of a group trying to rob the victim’s belongings.

The woman, identified as Gabriela Ochoa, was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity was confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Cook County Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in Ochoa’s murder.

Paul Rutherford, Executive Director of Cook County Crime Stoppers, stated, “Gabriela Ochoa’s family and our entire community deserve justice. If you have information that could help identify the perpetrators, please come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may help remove violent individuals from our community. Contact our Hotline at 1-800-535-STOP(7867) or visit CPDTIP.com.”

There is no one in custody, and Area One detectives are investigating.

No further information about the shooting was available.

Ald. Nicole Lee of the 11th Ward issued the following statement last week: “Tonight, we mourn the loss of the young woman tragically killed around 8:30 PM Saturday near Palmisano Park, seemingly during an attempted robbery. Our prayers are with all who knew Gabriela Ochoa. This loss is both tragic and unnecessary. We will not stop until those responsible are brought to justice. We’ve seen a rise in violent incidents in the area, including a non-fatal shooting on August 11 at 29th and Poplar, and a series of burglaries affecting seniors, including a recent incident at 2600 South Shields. I am deeply concerned about these violent crimes, and CPD will be ramping up patrols in the neighborhood. While no measure can completely prevent those determined to commit violence, be vigilant and report suspicious vehicles, especially those without license plates, to the police. Look out for neighbors who are out of town and exercise caution around the park in the evenings.”
