During an interview with KNBC, their eldest son revealed that Almanza purportedly admitted to the murder while driving toward the U.S.-Mexico border, with Romero’s body seated next to him.

Almanza reportedly communicated with multiple family members, who last saw Romero on a Friday. According to KNBC, Almanza’s mother alerted Mexican authorities, claiming her son had murdered Romero. The couple shared responsibility for five children, whose ages range from 16 to 26. Investigators suspect that the murder took place in Long Beach, California.

Miguel Angel Gaxiola, a prosecutor in Baja California, Mexico, informed KNBC, “We are currently exchanging information to pinpoint the crime scene in Long Beach.”
