A man from Kentucky is accused of violently attacking his fiancée by smashing her head into the side mirror of his truck after abandoning her to ride with a friend, according to police reports.
Herb Allen Lovett, aged 39, faces charges of fourth-degree assault, as announced by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently held at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
The incident took place on a Saturday when Lovett and his fiancée visited Wildcat Offroad Park near East Bernstadt, Kentucky, with plans to enjoy off-road vehicle rides together. This information was detailed in court documents reviewed by WDKY, a Lexington-based Fox affiliate.
Despite their plans, Lovett allegedly left his fiancée behind to join a friend for the ride. When he returned around 4 a.m. on Sunday, he found her sitting in the driver’s seat of his truck, keeping warm with the ignition on, as stated by authorities.
A confrontation ensued, during which Lovett reportedly “rammed her head into the mirror” of his vehicle. Additionally, he allegedly “grabbed her around the neck” and dragged her by her hair while she lay on the ground.
The woman managed to crawl under a camper to escape, eventually seeking refuge in the business’s office once it opened. An employee there urged her to report the assault, according to the authorities.
Laurel County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the business off Branch Road later that morning and found the woman. She had a cut on her face, bruising close to her hairline, and marks around her neck, WDKY reported. She was also covered in mud.
Lovett admitted to arguing with his fiancee but did not explain her injuries, per the court records. He was arrested, booked into jail, and later released on a $1,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court on April 21.
