In a disturbing incident at a Texas day care, a caregiver has been accused of biting a 3-year-old boy as a form of discipline after the child reportedly bit another child. The incident has raised serious concerns among the community and parents.
Elisha Daniel, aged 54, was taken into custody last week and now faces charges of felony injury to a child. Police say surveillance footage from Little Angels of Maypearl day care in Ellis County captured Daniel allegedly biting the young boy’s arm. The details were shared by law enforcement with Fox affiliate KDFW.
“Her behavior was extremely aggressive and filled with anger,” stated Maypearl Police Captain David Smith.
Smith detailed the footage, describing how Daniel allegedly grabbed the child’s arm, pulled him towards her, and then bit him, causing visible distress to the boy. “You can clearly see the pain on his face, indicating that something was seriously wrong,” Smith explained.
Child Protective Services became aware of the alleged biting in October and began an investigation, which eventually led them to notify the police, according to Smith.
Maypearl Police Chief John Shelton revealed to KDFW that the crucial surveillance video was key evidence that led to Daniel’s arrest. He has also called on other parents to report any similar incidents involving their children.
“If anybody wants to come forth with any additional information or any other incidents, then yes, we will investigate it,” Shelton said. “But so far we just have the one current one that we’re investigating.”
A staff member at Little Angels confirmed to Law&Crime on Tuesday that Daniel is no longer employed by the day care.
“No, she is not,” the worker said.
The family of the boy Daniel is accused of biting told KDFW that their son has been emotionally affected by the incident and is confused by what happened. The family said they hope he gets justice in some way.
Daniel was released on a $10,000 bond and is awaiting her next court hearing.
