Patrick Erron Tyson was taken into custody on Friday after officers from the Sylva Police Department responded to an emergency call at his residence in Sylva, North Carolina. As detailed in a Facebook statement from the police department, the call came in at 7:18 a.m. regarding a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, law enforcement encountered Tyson and a woman, both of whom admitted to having a heated verbal confrontation that intensified.

Police reports indicate that the woman claimed Tyson threatened to set her ablaze if she did not fetch him a beer. When she refused his demand, Tyson allegedly doused her with rubbing alcohol and set fire to the couch.

The Sylva Fire Department arrived promptly and managed to put out the blaze effectively.

Although the flames reportedly burned the woman’s shirt off, she remarkably escaped without burn injuries. However, the fire inflicted smoke damage and burned various parts of the home, including the couch and carpet. Additionally, the home’s stove was damaged when Tyson purportedly hurled an object at it, shattering the appliance.

Police said that the fire burned the woman’s shirt “off her body,” but she did not suffer any burn injuries. The fire allegedly set by Tyson caused smoke damage and burns to the couch, carpet, and other parts of the home. According to police, the home’s stove was “shattered” when Tyson “threw an item at it.”

Tyson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, arson, and two misdemeanors in connection with the incident. He was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail, where he is being held on $750,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 1.
