A woman sustained second-degree burns at a Florida gas station after a stranger allegedly approached her, poured gasoline on her and set her on fire, police said.
Eleanor Crawford, 41, faces charges of attempted murder and arson of a vehicle.
The 41-year-old victim was fueling her Volvo SUV at a St. Petersburg gas station when Crawford allegedly approached and “deliberately ignited gasoline,” causing both the woman and her vehicle to catch fire, according to a police press release.
Kovacsev said mental health concerns or substance use may have played a role in the gas station attack.
“I don’t know if alcohol and drugs were involved, but indicative of her history, there might’ve been something that diminished capacity there,” Kovacsev said. “Why would she even do something like this?”
Crawford remains in the Pinellas County Jail on a $350,000 bond. Her next court appearance had not been listed.
