The 31-year-old director of an NDIS provider is accused of withdrawing significant amounts of cash from different bank accounts and banks on multiple occasions between 2022 and 2025 to also help others launder the suspected proceeds of crime.

An inquiry initiated by the Fraud Fusion Taskforce (FFT) in February of the previous year uncovered irregularities in the financial dealings of a Villawood resident.

Authorities are set to argue that the funds were obtained through deceitful claims to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), including instances where services or support were never actually provided to the beneficiaries.

In December, fraud investigators from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) conducted a search of a Villawood residence under a warrant.

Police seized $35,000 in cash, alleged to be the proceeds of crime, as well as air guns and gel blasters.
The 31-year-old is expected to face Downing Centre Local Court today after being charged with one count of dealing money reasonably suspected of being proceeds of an indictable crime of $1 million or more.

Should the individual be found guilty, they could face a prison sentence of up to four years.

The NDIS has already moved to prohibit the accused and their associated provider from participating in the disability insurance program.

AFP Detective Inspector Aidan Milner emphasized that both the AFP and the FFT are dedicated to eradicating fraudulent activities that exploit funds meant to support vulnerable individuals.

“The AFP will not stop in its pursuit of these groups who chop and change companies in a cynical effort to hide their criminal behaviour from law enforcement,” Milner said.

NDIA chief executive Graeme Head said the agency would continue to work and protect the well-being of participants in the NDIS.

“Most providers do the right thing, but for the small number who don’t, expect a knock on the door,” Head said.
