A teenage boy is accused of trying to kill a 6-year-old girl by pushing her into a fire, leaving deputies in Baldwin County, Alabama, mystified.

“It is unclear what led to this unfortunate incident, and our investigators are actively following leads to determine exactly what occurred,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a post late Sunday.

Investigators did not name the people involved.
