A stolen white Mazda collided with a grey Kia just after 10 p.m. near the drive-through of a fast-food restaurant located on The Esplanade in St Kilda.
Witnesses reported that an individual exited the Mazda and began aggressively pounding on the Kia. During this altercation, a 17-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Kia was slashed.
Following this, the Kia drove out of the parking lot with the Mazda in pursuit. The chase led them to Ackland Street and eventually onto St Leonards Avenue, which ended in a cul-de-sac.
At this point, the two males from the Kia attempted to escape on foot.
The individuals from the Mazda abandoned their vehicle, commandeered the Kia, and made their getaway.
Shortly afterward, the 17-year-old was discovered on St Leonards Avenue, suffering from severe injuries.
Police believe he was deliberately run down by the group now driving the Kia, which was found abandoned nearby on Fitzroy Street.
He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police were told two males of African appearance had fled the Kia on foot toward Beaconsfield Parade.
The investigation is ongoing and police are checking if the parties are known to one another.
