A Wisconsin teen has been sentenced to prison for the fatal shooting of his 15-year-old girlfriend, a case that left a Milwaukee family grieving and a 17-year-old facing years behind bars.

Javier Smith, 17, admitted guilt in June to second-degree reckless homicide in the death of his girlfriend, Azoria Jones. A criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime says Milwaukee police responded to reports of gunfire on the night of Sept. 21, 2025. When officers reached the scene, they discovered Azoria lying on the ground with “blood on her shirt.” She had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the location.

Investigators said surveillance footage helped piece together what happened. The video, recorded by a Milwaukee County Transit bus as it passed the teens walking along the sidewalk, captured the sound of a gunshot at 10:19 p.m. Moments later, Azoria fell to the pavement. The complaint says Smith bent over her “for a few seconds” before running away. Police noted that no other vehicles appeared to be in the immediate area just before the shooting.

Smith originally faced charges of first-degree reckless homicide and possession of a weapon by a person under 18. On June 4, he pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of second-degree reckless homicide, while the dismissed weapons count was read into the court record. A judge sentenced him to 12 years in prison, followed by six years of supervised release.

The story about the teen who killed his 15-year-old girlfriend, left her bleeding on a sidewalk, and allegedly tried to blame someone else after going to his grandmother’s house first appeared on Law & Crime.
