Four children have been arrested after a police chase across Sydney this morning.

Police allege the children led officers on a high-speed chase from Edmondson Park in the south-west to Bondi Junction in the city’s eastern suburbs.

Officers said they tried to stop a  Mazda CX-5 on the Hume Highway at Edmondson Park about 10.30am.

The car was allegedly stolen from a home in the Geelong suburb of Grovedale about 3pm yesterday.

Officers pursued it along the M5 for a short time, but called it off for safety reasons.

Police continued to track the car by helicopter.

Officers again pursued the car, but it was again called off after the teenagers allegedly threw a headrest, a floor mat, and other items at police.

The car was tracked from the M5 motorway through suburban Sydney, from Alexandria to Bondi Junction via Centennial Park.

The car was found dumped inside the bus interchange at Bondi Junction Railway Station, with the four children allegedly fleeing into the station.

They were spotted inside by plain-clothes police officers and arrested after a short foot chase.

Police said that two of the arresting officers were on their first day as probationary constables.

Two 14-year-old boys, a 12-year-old girl, and a 17-year-old girl were arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

Detective Inspector Adam Solah said NSW Police were in discussions with Victoria Police to extradite the four children back to Victoria.

“Charges are expected in relation to the stolen vehicle, and the offences that occurred in Victoria,” he said.
