Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early this morning, police apprehended 29-year-old Erin Deshawn Williams following allegations of his aggressive behavior outside a stranger’s residence. Williams is accused of knocking vigorously and obstructing the view through the peephole before smashing a liquor bottle on the door.

At approximately 12:29 a.m. on December 12, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were dispatched to Frederick Gardens Apartments, located at 1130 SW 16th Avenue. The resident had sought refuge in her bathroom, placing an emergency call to 911 after hearing someone loudly banging on her door and covering her peephole. The intruder also reportedly shattered a liquor bottle against her door.

Upon arrival, police discovered Williams on a landing below the resident’s apartment. He allegedly admitted to not knowing anyone in the complex and claimed to “do whatever he wanted.” The officer noted that Williams was unfamiliar with the name of the apartment complex and couldn’t identify any residents. His demeanor reportedly grew confrontational, heightening suspicions that he might have attempted to break into the apartment.

During a search conducted as part of the arrest process, authorities reportedly uncovered a bag containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamines.

After being read his Miranda rights, Williams allegedly stated that the bag contained cocaine.

The victim reportedly identified Williams as the man she had seen outside her door and said she did not know him.

Williams has been charged with disorderly conduct, loitering/prowling, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has no criminal history, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $17,000 but ordered that he could be released on his own recognizance if he is cleared for day reporting.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
