Exclusive Report: Homes in the north-east of Melbourne have reportedly been the target of armed intrusions.
In one alarming incident, a group armed with machetes forcibly entered a property, leaving it in disarray.
Video footage captures the moment the gang used machetes to shatter a bedroom window before entering the Heidelberg West residence of a 23-year-old man with a disability.
“This is unacceptable in our community,” expressed the man’s mother.
“He’s traumatized. He’s in shock. He can’t sleep. He constantly cries and trembles,” she added.
Fortunately, her son was not at home during the early morning break-in.
He moved back in with her on Friday due to fears for his safety
“I’m just thankful that he’s alive and he didn’t have to witness the machetes in his face or anything more horrific,” she said.
“These youth need to stop doing this to innocent, vulnerable people.”
The victim’s family believes the gang was after expensive clothes and shoes.
One person was allegedly captured with a full bag before he tried to get rid of the evidence.
The disabled man wasn’t the only one targeted overnight.
In separate incidents in Viewbank, two 17-year-old boys allegedly tried to break into three homes.
They were disturbed by the residents and arrested shortly after.
“We’re not feeling safe, and we’re hoping the authorities will take this seriously and make Melbourne safe,” another local said.
