A presumed dead Texas woman’s family is devastated after her accused killer walked out of jail last week on a modified bond.
A Bexar County judge modified the bond conditions for Reyes Gallegos, who is charged with murdering his wife, Cecilia Huerta Gallegos, in 2019.
The modification has allowed Gallegos to temporarily gain more freedom while he awaits his murder trial.
Court records indicate that Gallegos is mandated to wear a GPS tracking device and adhere to a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. He has also been granted supervised visits with his and Cecilia’s two children.
“I still don’t agree with him being out there enjoying life when our sister is still missing,” said Mireya Lopez, Cecilia’s sister. “There’s no closure for us yet.”
Lopez is also concerned for the family’s safety, especially for the two children, according to KENS 5.
“It’s mostly about our safety—my older sister’s safety, the kids’ safety—because he does know where she lives.”
As previously noted by CrimeOnline, Gallegos informed police that Cecilia left their home on the 5600 block of Southwick in Northwest San Antonio following an argument.
He also reportedly claimed she cut him on his finger with a knife before leaving, as FOX San Antonio reported.
Security footage at the home, however, tells a different story, investigators said.
According to the home’s outdoor security footage, Cecilia returned home at 7:30 p.m. on July 7, 2019. Indoor cameras captured her entering her bedroom shortly after, but she was not seen on camera again, nor was she observed leaving.
The morning of July 8, Gallegos reportedly switched off the security cameras for approximately two hours. Upon reactivating the cameras, he was visible going in and out of the bedroom and moving throughout the house, according to the affidavit.
Gallegos was also seen “unloading two shovels and a chainsaw,” according to police.
The arrest affidavit further described Gallegos as being covered in sweat after repeatedly loading his vehicle with items. He then entered his house to shower before notifying the police about Cecilia’s disappearance.
Family members indicated Cecilia’s cell phone, personal belongings, and car were left behind, along with her children. Cecilia’s sister said red flags were raised when Cecilia disappeared without her children.
As of Saturday, there is no court date listed for Gallegos despite the District Attorney’s Office saying they are ready to proceed with the murder trial.
Cecilia’s body has still not been located. Anyone with information on the case should contact the San Antonio Police Department Missing Persons/Youth Services at 210-207-7660.
