Five Charged, Including Former Guard, in Inmate’s Death Inside Texas Jail

A Texas woman allegedly left a child in a hot car, in the Galena Park area of Houston, while she worked Tuesday.

As reported by KHOU, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez mentioned that a 36-year-old mother went to the USG office on Mayo Shell Road for her early morning shift at 6 a.m. She left her 9-year-old daughter inside the car.

The mother left some water in the vehicle, rolled down the windows slightly, and set up sunshades before beginning her workday. Around 2 p.m., when she returned to the car, she found her daughter unresponsive. Authorities received a call at approximately 2:06 p.m.

“The child was transported to LBJ hospital and pronounced deceased. The location is the parking lot of an industrial complex,” Gonzalez said.

The identity of the mother has not been publicly shared, but she has been detained for questioning. Homicide detectives are currently conducting an investigation, although no charges have been made at present.

“This death, along with the two now-confirmed as heat-related deaths in Texas on Friday and Saturday, brings the tragic total of Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke (PVH) tragedies for the year. This is three more than at the end of June last year,” Jan Null, CCM, Adjunct Professor of Meteorology at San Jose State University, told CrimeOnline in an emailed statement.
