GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In the early hours of this morning, a tragic incident on SW Archer Road resulted in the death of a 34-year-old Gainesville resident. The man lost his life after being struck by three separate vehicles while he was standing on the road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred around 4:41 a.m. on May 24, near the intersection of SW 81st Street. For reasons that remain unclear, the man was in the roadway and was initially hit by two unidentified vehicles. These vehicles failed to stop, leaving the scene. A third vehicle, driven by a 34-year-old woman from Chiefland, subsequently hit the man and remained at the scene to report the incident.
Authorities have noted that the area lacks street lighting, which may have contributed to the accident. The incident is currently under criminal investigation due to the two drivers who fled.
