In a tragic incident in New Jersey, a 35-year-old man faces serious charges after allegedly fatally stabbing a 40-year-old father in front of his children. The victim, identified as Jimmy Chase, was reportedly teaching his kids to ride their bikes when the violent confrontation occurred.
Authorities arrested Davon Holloman last week, charging him with first-degree murder and multiple weapons offenses. He also faces three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, as announced by the officials handling the case.
Investigators noted that Chase was the father of Holloman’s girlfriend’s children, adding a complex layer to the family dynamics involved in this crime.
According to a news release from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ewing Police Department was alerted at approximately 5:20 p.m. on January 8. Officers responded to a reported attack at a residence on the 100 block of New Hillcrest Avenue.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found Chase lying in the street with multiple stab wounds to his torso. Despite efforts to save him, Chase succumbed to his injuries at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead early the following morning.
The investigation indicated that a physical altercation broke out between Holloman and Chase. Notably, much of the conflict was recorded on a cellphone, capturing the distressing scene of Chase’s three young children attempting to intervene in the fight. This video evidence is expected to play a significant role in the ongoing legal proceedings.
Chase’s sister, Latoya Chase, started a GoFundMe to raise money for her brother’s funeral. The fundraising page, which had raised nearly $10,000 as of Wednesday afternoon, said the victim was “outside teaching his three sons how to ride their bikes” when he was “attacked and murdered in front of them” by Holloman, who was dating their mother.
“This senseless act has left our family devastated and his children without their loving father,” the page states. “Jimmy was a good man who played a major role in our community. He was always there to lend a helping hand, and his kindness touched everyone who met him. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him, and the pain of his absence is immeasurable. Jimmy’s greatest joy was being a father, and he worked hard to provide a safe and loving environment for his boys.”
Authorities said the investigation into the fatal stabbing remains ongoing.
