In a tragic incident in Mississippi, a woman is now facing drug-related charges following the drowning of her two young children in a swimming pool on Monday. Authorities have indicated that “additional charges are pending.”
The Gautier Police Department reported that officers responded to a call at a residence later in the afternoon, discovering the children “unresponsive near a swimming pool.” Emergency personnel attempted life-saving procedures, but the children, transported to Ocean Springs Hospital, were pronounced dead.
Amber Goldman, 36, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance along with possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police statements.
“This is an unthinkable tragedy that has left a profound impact on our community,” stated Chief of Police David Bever. “Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and first responders affected by this devastating loss. We urge everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as our investigation continues to unfold.”
As reported by WLOX, the victims were two boys, aged 2 and 5, and the coroner confirmed their cause of death as drowning.
The police have not released further details about how the young brothers ended up in the pool but confirmed that the investigation remains “ongoing.”
According to jail records, Goldman is being held on a $2,500 bond.
