In a recent court session, prosecutors revealed that an 18-year-old behind the wheel deliberately triggered a massive 12-vehicle collision at a Las Vegas intersection, resulting in the tragic deaths of his pregnant girlfriend and another driver.

Jose Gutierrez, now 19, is facing murder charges, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson explained on Friday, “Given the evidence, including a detailed video, we believe his actions were deliberate. He wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which supports the murder charge.”

The crash claimed the lives of Adilene Duran Rincon, 20, and Edward Garcia, 38, at the scene last Tuesday, while another individual sustained critical injuries. Rincon was a passenger in the Infiniti coupe driven by Gutierrez.

According to Wolfson, Gutierrez had a clear view but did not attempt to slow down as he sped toward the traffic light.

Eyewitness accounts suggest he was driving at approximately 100 mph, although details about the witnesses’ exact locations were not provided.

Wolfson told reporters after the hearing that there was “a very descriptive video” of the incident, according to KSNV.

“All indications are that there was no braking before the collision, and that by itself gives rise to a degree of intentional conduct,” Wolfson said.

A criminal complaint later showed that Gutierrez was charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, reckless driving, and battery, the Review-Journal said.

Hearing Master Daniel Westmeyer found probable cause for Gutierrez’s arrest but delayed a bail hearing until after after arraignment. Gutierrez is due back in court on Tuesday.
