Trenton Man Arrested After Allegedly Threatening Family Member With Knife in Gainesville Parking Lot

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Marc Charles Cole, 52, of Trenton, was arrested July 27 after police said he threatened to cut a family member with a knife during a July 11 confrontation in a Gainesville parking lot.

According to a Gainesville Police Department officer, the victim and a witness, both relatives of Cole, went to the Publix parking lot at 4115 NW 16th Boulevard on July 11 to help him repair his truck. Around 2:20 p.m., Cole allegedly punched the victim in the face and ran from the area. The responding officer reported being unable to find Cole and noted that the victim had a swollen eye.

Police said the victim and witness were still waiting for a tow truck at about 4:32 p.m. when Cole came back to the truck. The victim was seated in the witness’s vehicle with the door open when Cole allegedly confronted him about calling police earlier. Cole reportedly pulled out a pocket knife, opened it, pointed it toward the victim’s face, and threatened to “cut” him and “f–k [him] up.” The victim, who feared for his safety, called 911, but Cole allegedly got his truck started and drove away before officers arrived.

Cole was arrested July 27 near NW 13th Street and NW 53rd Avenue and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court and arrest information list him as a designated Career Offender with 10 non-violent felony convictions and eight misdemeanor convictions, two of them violent. He has served two state prison sentences and was most recently released in March 2025. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $25,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
