The process of selecting a jury commenced on Monday at the Arapahoe County Court in Colorado for the trial of James Craig, a dentist accused of the murder of his wife by allegedly poisoning her protein shakes.
James Craig faces charges of first-degree murder following the death of his wife, 43-year-old Angela Craig, on March 18, 2023. According to investigators, Angela’s death resulted from consuming lethal doses of tetrahydrozoline—an ingredient often found in eye drops—along with cyanide.
Authorities claim Craig procured cyanide and arsenic just days before Angela’s death and conducted online searches on how to carry out poisonings. Concurrently, he was reportedly experiencing financial difficulties and engaging in an extramarital affair.
Prosecutors later charged him with two counts one count of solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence He allegedly tried to convince one of his daughters to help cover up the crime between March 18, 2023, and March 31, 2023,
He’s also charged with two counts of solicitation to commit perjury.
An arrest warrant indicated that Craig had a text conversation with a colleague [name redacted] following his wife’s hospitalization. Although he initially denied ordering potassium cyanide, he recanted and claimed Angela wanted him to order it but didn’t have the credentials herself.
Craig said that he didn’t really think his wife would take it, adding that it was similar to a dare, or a game of chicken.
Police arrested James and booked him into jail on March 19, 2023, on a $10 million cash-only bond.
The trial is expected to last around three weeks.
