U Michigan Head Football Coach Fired, Arrested for Home Invasion, Stalking

The University of Michigan’s renowned football program finds itself in turmoil following the revelation of a long-standing affair involving their head coach, Sherrone Moore. The situation unfolded after the woman involved ended the relationship, leading Moore to inundate her with multiple phone calls and texts, prompting her to report the matter to the university.

On Wednesday, Moore, a married man with three children, was dismissed from his position after a dramatic turn of events. Reports from NBC News indicate that he allegedly broke into the woman’s residence on the same day, threatening to take his own life.

In court, Prosecutor Kati Rezmierski recounted how Moore brandished two butter knives and a pair of scissors, telling the woman, “My blood is on your hands.” These actions led to charges of home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.

Rezmierski detailed Moore’s alarming words: “I’m going to kill myself. I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.” This prompted the woman to contact her lawyer and warn Moore she was alerting the police, which apparently led to his departure. Authorities apprehended him shortly thereafter.

According to Rezmierski, the woman ended the affair with Moore earlier in the week and approached the University of Michigan for an investigation after he persistently reached out to her through calls and text messages.

Rezmierski told the court that the woman broke off her relationship with Moore on Monday, eventually presenting “herself to the University of Michigan” for “some form of investigation” after he repeatedly contacted her by phone and text.

The university fired him on Wednesday, saying he had an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

“When the findings of a University investigation into Coach Moore’s behavior were presented on Wednesday, we immediately terminated his employment,” university President Domenico Grasso said in a statement on Thursday. “There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan. None.”

“This breach of trust by Coach Moore is painful for many in our community, first and foremost, the individuals directly involved in this situation,” Grasso said. “Yet our swift and decisive action reflects the University’s staunch commitment to a campus culture of respect, integrity and accountability.”

Moore was a given a $25,000 bond in court on Friday and ordered to wear a GPS monitor and stay away from his ex-girlfriend. He posted bond Friday afternoon, the Detroit Free Press said.

Moore helmed the University of Michigan football team for two seasons after taking over from Jim Harbaugh, who left to become head coach of the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers. He worked under Harbaugh from 2018 until taking over as head coach.

Associate Coach Biff Poggi has been named interim head coach of the Wolverines and will guide the team in its Citrus Bowl appearance against Texas on New Year’s Eve.
