Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Thursday evening, law enforcement detained Marshall W. Durocher, 63, for illegal firearm possession due to his status as a convicted felon. This occurred following a tense stand-off lasting over an hour, where Durocher refused to distance himself from the firearm. Prior to this, he had been arrested on October 1 for operating a vehicle with a revoked license.

At approximately 5:50 p.m. on October 9, deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in Arrendondo Estates. The call came from Durocher’s roommate, reporting that an argument had escalated, causing Durocher to leave with a loaded shotgun in hand. Officers located Durocher in an SUV outside the house, with the shotgun aimed at his own head. The situation escalated, prompting the arrival of specialized units such as the Negotiation Response Team, Bomb Squad Robot Operator, a K-9 unit, and Mental Health Co-Responders. The area was secured, and locals were advised to stay indoors.

Though Durocher acknowledged hearing the deputies’ instructions to surrender the shotgun, he resisted compliance for over an hour. Eventually, he placed the shotgun on the ground but defied orders to move away. Authorities then used a robot to safely recover the weapon.

After securing the firearm, officers arrested Durocher for possession of a firearm by someone with a felony record. His record includes four felony charges (including one violent) and two misdemeanor charges (one violent). Earlier in the month, he was apprehended for driving with a revoked license but was released the next day. For this new charge, Judge Jonathan Ramsey has set his bail at $25,000.

Arrest reports in articles are sourced from law enforcement data. The listed charges come from arrest documents and/or court records and are accusations. Individuals accused are considered innocent until proven guilty in a judicial setting.
