It’s been almost five years since Abby Williams and Libby German were murdered in Delphi, Indiana, and although the case is still open, authorities say there could be an arrest any day now.

In an interview on Thursday morning with “Good Morning America,” Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter said thinks the case could be solved while he’s still serving as superintendent.

“My resolve to catch him now is as strong as day one,” Carter said. “But the difference between now and day one is that we know about you, a lot about you. Today could be the day.”

“Three years, two years 11 months…It could be today. We continue to move in a positive direction.”

A man who was arrested on child pornography and related charges has been linked to the case as a person of interest. Kegan Kline, who went by the screenname “anthony_shots” on Instagram, remains behind bars but has not been charged or named a suspect in connection with the Delphi case.

“It generated a tremendous amount of interest and the leads we have received have been very helpful that’s as far as I can go on that particular issue,” Carter replied.

On February 13, 2017, Libby and Abby took a hiking trip at the abandoned Monon High Bridge in Delphi; the outing was only meant to be for a few hours.

The girls took photos while strolling across the bridge, but as time passed and their family didn’t hear from them, they became worried and called authorities for assistance.

Police found the girls’ lifeless bodies a short distance from the bridge the following day, near a trail close to the bridge. They had both been murdered.

The incident was nicknamed the “Snapchat Murders” after Abby took a photo of Libby at around 2:17 p.m. and put it on social media. Detectives said that after the photo was taken, a man approached the girls and apparently told them to “go down the hill.”

One of the girls, likely sensing danger, recorded the man’s voice on her cellphone. She also managed to take a photo and record a small clip of the suspect. Although his face isn’t clear in the picture, it was enough to give authorities a general description. Since then, they’ve been poring through thousands of tips.

Meanwhile, detectives continue to ask anyone who may have had contact with the screen name “anthony_shots” to contact law enforcement at abbyandlibbytip@cacoshrf.com or 765-822-3535.

Kline was arrested in 2020 and charged with seven counts of child exploitation, 17 counts of child pornography, one count of soliciting a child for sex, three counts of obstruction of justice, and two counts of synthetic identity deception.

Heavily redacted court documents say that state police and the FBI encountered Kline in 2017 while conducting a search warrant in Peru, Indiana. That is when they discovered the “anthony_shots” profile, soliciting minor girls online.
