In Florida, a woman is accused of shooting another woman in the “buttocks” and “back area” with a handgun. Authorities say the incident happened after the victim went to the suspect’s home, searching for her boyfriend, who was reportedly inside with the suspect.
The suspect, Jahniya Meda, 25, faces attempted murder charges for the shooting, which took place early in the morning at her residence in the 3000 block of Northwest 184th Street in Miami Gardens, as stated by the police.
As per Meda’s arrest affidavit, accessed by Law&Crime, the victim visited Meda’s house, aware that her boyfriend was present there. She knocked on the door, requesting her boyfriend to come outside, as per the police report.
The affidavit reveals that “As the victim began moving from the front door toward a side gate, [Meda] exited onto the porch and fired two shots towards her, shouting ‘Get from my house!'” This event was allegedly captured by a Ring security camera.
Immediately following the alleged shooting, the victim’s boyfriend was seen “fleeing the area” in a Mercedes-Benz. Police responded to the incident, eventually intercepting the boyfriend, who confirmed he was inside Meda’s house and specifically in her bedroom when the victim arrived searching for him.
“He explained that he did not answer the door because it was not his residence; however, Meda went to the door, and shortly thereafter he heard gunshots,” the affidavit says.
Meda was taken into custody and questioned by detectives. She allegedly claimed that the victim showed up to her home at around 9:50 a.m. and started “banging on the door and yelling that she was going to beat [Meda’s] a—,” according to the affidavit.
“Meda advised she recognized the female from a prior incident involving the same boyfriend referenced above,” the document alleges.
The victim was found parked at a nearby park and taken to a local hospital for treatment, police say. Meda was being held Monday without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
