At about 1pm yesterday, emergency services were called to Burton Road in Athelstone, to find a home engulfed by fire.

The building was destroyed despite firefighting efforts.

A woman who lived at the home was detained at the scene, during the course of which a woman officer was allegedly assaulted.

The detained woman was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment, and the officer was hospitalised for minor injuries.

The occupant, a 21-year-old woman, has since been arrested and charged with arson, assault, harming and emergency service worker, and resisting police.

She was refused bail and will appear in court today.
