A convicted sex offender tried to sexually assault a woman at knife point in a laundromat, only for his would-be victim to grab his weapon and fatally wound him, according to deputies out of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

Nicholas Vincent Tranchant, 40, recently got out of prison and has a criminal history dating back to at least July 25, 2023, when he was convicted of indecent behavior with juveniles, state records show. Later, he was convicted on May 15, 2008, for attempted aggravated rape for he was released from prison on Dec. 21, 2023, but he had to register as a sex offender for life.
