Young man, 20, detained for visible firearm in vehicle

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Artrell Amarion Otis Little, 20, was arrested yesterday for allegedly having a gun in plain view on the seat of his car.

Around 9:30 p.m. on August 28, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were on the hunt for a wanted suspect at Little’s residence. Little was found sitting in a vehicle outside his home. An officer noted that a Glock 43x was visibly placed on the front passenger seat and was not properly secured. Little was the sole occupant of the car.

Post Miranda, Little reportedly said the gun belonged to his brother and that his brother had left the gun in his vehicle the previous day.

He faces charges for openly carrying a firearm. With a past record of one felony and two misdemeanor convictions, Judge Meshon Rawls has set his bail at $25,000.

Previously, in December 2022, when Little was 18, he got arrested for reportedly threatening to harm a family, including two children. By March 2023, Little acknowledged the accusations through an affidavit and agreed to enter a pre-trial intervention program that would suspend the prosecution for 18 months, granted he followed the contract’s conditions.

However, after being arrested for battery in Volusia County in July 2023, the contract was nullified. In October 2023, Little pleaded nolo contendere to charges of illegally carrying a concealed weapon, having a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and the improper showing of a firearm. These offenses collectively may result in up to seven years in prison. Judge James Colaw decided not to adjudicate his guilt but did sentence him to 18 months of probation, which Little fulfilled by April 2025.

Articles concerning arrests are compiled based on law enforcement reports. The listed charges are sourced from arrest records and/or court documents and are merely allegations. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.
