Some Jetstar travellers will be booted from Qantas lounges under new rules coming into effect on July 1.
Customers on Jetstar international flights will no longer have access to complimentary lounge invitations – a single-visit benefit provided by the Qantas Frequent Flyer program or a partner credit card program.

Passengers flying on Qantas-operated services, Qantas codeshare flights with Jetstar, and domestic Jetstar flights will still retain lounge access “where available.”

Free lounge invitations can be connected to flights via an online portal or passed to another Qantas Frequent Flyer member.

Travelers often use social media platforms to exchange these complimentary lounge invitations among themselves.

However, the upcoming policy changes will restrict this activity.

Soon, complimentary lounge invitations can “only be transferred to someone traveling on the same flight as you.”

These modifications will not impact Platinum One Frequent Flyers or the Platinum One Lounge Invitations.

9news.com.au understands the changes were driven by customer feedback and ensuring the complimentary invitations are used as intended.

Qantas lounges are used by flight enthusiasts to relax, eat and drink before their flight or during a layover.

Access is usually granted based on the class of travel or Qantas Frequent Flyer, Qantas Club, oneworld or Emirates membership tier.

Lounges can also be accessed by the complimentary lounge invitation or a single-vist Qantas lounge pass.

Australians planning a holiday are facing a brutal blow with airfares set to surge and flights slashed as jet fuel supplies tighten and China curbs exports. From tomorrow, a return flight from Sydney to London with Cathay Pacific will be hit by an eye-watering $800 fuel surcharge on top of the usual ticket price. Qantas has already imposed a 5 per cent increase on international fares, while Virgin Australia has also begun raising its prices. Jetstar is quietly cancelling one in ten of its May flights in New Zealand, and Air New Zealand has already axed around 1,100 services. Experts warn prices are only going to get worse, with global jet fuel costs surging 11.2 per cent in a week to $175 a barrel - after jumping more than 80 per cent since late February, according to the International Air Transport Association.
