On Sunday morning, a tragic shooting occurred during a bonfire gathering in Pinson, Alabama, leading to a deadly outcome. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has identified unlawful access to its property as a significant factor in the incident.

In a heartfelt statement, ALDOT conveyed its condolences to the victims and their families, labeling the occurrence as a “tragedy” and confirming its full cooperation with ongoing investigations. The department clarified that the land, which it has possessed for almost ten years, has consistently been designated as restricted.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families in light of the tragedy that unfolded on Sunday morning,” ALDOT stated. “This property has been clearly marked with ‘No Trespassing’ signs, concrete barriers, and a fence for many years. Any access that has bypassed these security measures is illegal.”

Despite these precautions, local residents claim the site has been a popular spot for off-roading and late-night gatherings. ALDOT emphasized that it had not been informed of any illegal activities occurring on the premises before the unfortunate event.

In response to the incident, the department has implemented additional security measures to discourage further unauthorized access to the property.

The department says ALDOT was never notified of any illegal activity on the site prior to the shooting. Officials also confirmed that additional security steps have now been taken to prevent further unauthorized entry.

“ALDOT was never made aware of any illegal activity on the site. ALDOT is cooperating with investigators as they gather information that is likely to result in multiple criminal charges, and we will continue working with local law enforcement to address the issue of unlawful trespassing on state property,” the agency stated.

The shooting remains under investigation.
