Martin Odegaard wants to remain at Arsenal ‘for a long time’, but declined to be drawn on negotiations over a new deal.

The Norwegian’s current £115,000-a-week deal runs out in June 2025 and the Gunners are planning to offer their captain a multi-year extension on improved terms, as reported in June by Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old reiterated his desire to extend his stay at the Emirates, but was coy to discuss any detail.

‘Beyond that, I have no comment right now. Now, it is the national team that is in focus.’

Odegaard has become a key figure within Mikel Arteta’s side since his arrival in north London back in January 2021 and will be vital for their chase for the Premier League title.

Having initially signed on a six-month loan from Real Madrid, the Gunners spent £30million to keep Odegaard on a permanent basis in the following summer.

The Norwegian has made 110 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions and was made captain at the beginning of last season, inheriting the armband from Alexandre Lacazette.

Odegaard enjoyed his best campaign in the Premier League last term, delivering 15 goals and eight assists in 37 matches as the Gunners led the title race for most of the season before eventually falling short.

And midfielder has continued his fine form so far this season, scoring twice in his first four league outings.

Mikel Arteta will now be keen to ensure his key man’s long-term future lies at the Emirates after Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale and William Saliba signed new contracts over the summer.

In May, Saka signed a £300,000-a-week deal to remain at Arsenal until 2027 and Aaron Ramsdale doubled his wages after agreeing to a four-year contract worth £120,000-a-week.

Saliba penned a new four-year deal in June, while Gabriel Martinelli signed a four-year extension back in February.
