On Tuesday evening, authorities in Bexar County, Texas, discovered a body amid ongoing investigations into a series of disappearances involving teenage girls who vanished within the span of a week.

The discovery occurred during the search for 19-year-old Camila Olmos. However, officials indicated that it is too soon to confirm if the remains are hers.

During a news conference, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar announced that the investigative team “recently found a body in a field” between 4:40 and 4:45 p.m. He noted that the medical examiner would be responsible for identifying the body and determining the cause and manner of death.

The remains were uncovered by a collaborative team of sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents in a grassy area near a landscaping business, just a few hundred yards from Olmos’ residence, according to Salazar.

Camila Olmos was reported missing on Christmas Eve, intensifying the urgency of the search efforts.

Authorities also found a firearm near the body, which had been a focal point of interest throughout the search operation.

Salazar said investigators do not currently suspect murder and noted there were indicators consistent with possible self-harm, though he stressed it is too early to draw conclusions while the scene is still being processed.

Olmos was last seen leaving her home in far northwest Bexar County around 7 a.m. on Dec. 24, authorities said. Her case came as two other girls were reported missing in the area. Fourteen-year-old Sofia Gabriela Peters-Cobos has since been found safe, while 17-year-old Angelique Johnson remains missing, according to police.

Law enforcement has said there is no confirmed connection between the cases.

Texas Department of Public Safety said the Clear Alert for Olmos has been discontinued, though authorities urged anyone with information related to the cases or the whereabouts of Angelique Johnson to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
