Real Madrid could turn their attention to Erling Haaland should their attempt to lure Kylian Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu fail, with the Norwegian deemed as ‘affordable’.

The French superstar is officially free to negotiate with foreign clubs as of January 1 as he enters the final six months of his PSG deal.

And reports in France on Sunday night indicated Mbappe had agreed to join Real next season, just over 18 months after rejecting a move to LaLiga in favour to remain at the Parc des Princes.

Should the 2018 World Cup winner turn down the chance to switch Paris for Madrid, Los Blancos could test Erling Haaland’s resolve.

AS claims Haaland has an 'affordable price' of just over £85million

AS claims Haaland has an ‘affordable price’ of just over £85million

The Norwegian’s current deal with Manchester City runs until 2027 and reportedly includes a €200million (£172million) release clause, that will decrease annually through the duration of the contract.

But according to Spanish outlet AS, the release clause only applies should one of City’s Premier League rivals come calling. The release clause is understood to be closer to €100m where foreign clubs are concerned.

AS reports that Real could even attempt to sign Mbappe and Haaland this summer, unlikely as that may sound given their well-documented financial issues.

Haaland enjoyed a stunning debut season in England, winning the Treble with City and  setting a new record for goals in a 38-match Premier League season with 36.

In November, he became the fastest player to hit the 50-goal landmark in the Premier League in just 48 appearances.

While he’s been sidelined by injuries over the past month, City have no intention to sell their talisman.

But AS notes that Real see the 23-year-old as the top striker in the world for the next decade, one capable of scoring 40 to 50 goals a season.

The report suggests Haaland is well aware of Real’s admiration and knows Carlo Ancelotti would welcome his arrival at the Bernabeu.

Significantly, Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has a great relationship with Madrid president Florentino Perez and has been a guest in his box at the Bernabeu this season.

Pimenta was non-committal when asked to discuss Haaland’s future in November.

‘Will he sign for Madrid? You should ask Madrid that,’ she told Spanish outlet Relevo.

‘I think it is not necessary to say that Erling does what he wants. It is not true.

‘Erling is always going to do what is good for him and for his club, Manchester City. When everyone is willing to make a change, it will be done.

AS, however, also suggested Real could wait until to formally open their quest to land the Norwegian given the high expectations surrounding Endrick’s arrival.

The 17-year-old officially signed for Los Blancos last month were he will join fellow Brazilians Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo.
