As anticipation builds for UFC 328, concerns about tensions flaring between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland proved justified during Thursday’s press conference. Set to clash for the middleweight title in one of the year’s most eagerly awaited events, both fighters showed little restraint as they exchanged verbal jabs for a full half-hour. The heated exchange reached a boiling point when Chimaev kicked Strickland during their face-off, prompting security and law enforcement to swiftly intervene and separate the fighters.

This weekend, Newark’s Prudential Center will host the explosive main event featuring Chimaev and Strickland. However, following Thursday’s altercation, UFC officials took no chances during Friday’s proceedings. Eschewing the usual final face-off routine, security ensured Chimaev was kept at a safe distance from Strickland, who continued to taunt his opponent from afar. The heightened precautions underlined the intensity of their rivalry as the pair prepares to settle their differences in the Octagon.

While the main event draws much of the spotlight, fans can also look forward to a thrilling undercard. Notably, Joshua Van is set to defend his flyweight title for the first time against Tatsuro Taira in the co-main event. Van claimed the championship in December when former titleholder Alexandre Pantoja was forced out with a severe elbow injury, leading to a TKO victory for Van. As he faces Taira, who boasts an impressive 8-1 UFC record at just 26 years old, Van has a chance to solidify his standing and silence skeptics.
