Adam Lambert made a striking statement at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, arriving in an unmistakably gothic-inspired ensemble.
The 44-year-old singer, who released a new album three months ago, joined stars including RHOBH alum Lisa Rinna and Ciara on the red carpet outside the Peacock Theater.
The former American Idol finalist commanded attention in a flowing black satin robe that gave his red-carpet appearance a dramatic edge.
He completed the look with a distinctive black headpiece featuring his name, adding a playful custom detail to the otherwise dark ensemble.
The “If I Had You” hitmaker matched the outfit with intense beauty looks, including heavily smoked-out black eye makeup.
Black earrings and glossy black nail polish rounded out Lambert’s head-to-toe monochromatic style.

Lambert has previously spoken about his love of bold eye makeup. “I’m always into a smoky eye,” he told Allure in 2023. “That’s the centerpiece of it all. I tend to gravitate toward cooler colors, like jewel-toned greens and blues and blacks and silvers.”
“Sometimes I’ll push into a gold place. One of the things that I’ve learned more about lately is contouring and highlighting.”
He added, “Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about blending and when to pull back, and also products.”
“There are so many resources out there now and so many tutorials and the cosmetic industry is booming and there are all these amazing brands.”
The performer continued, “Getting to experiment with different products just leads to better results.”
In a previous interview with Euphoria Magazine, Lambert also discussed the importance of trusting his own instincts when choosing his fashion and makeup looks.
“I think there have been moments in the past, over the past decade or so where, for whatever reason, I thought or I was told by members of a team or a record label to try to appeal to some sort of idea of what I should look like or something.”

He added, ‘Because my natural inclination is to go all out. You know? I wanna put funky makeup on and wear weird clothes and heels and all that, and I’ve always done that.’
Lambert has been keeping busy in the music industry and dropped his sixth studio album simply titled Adam back in July.
The LP, which was dropped under his own label called More Is More, contains 12 tracks such as Eat U Alive and Under The Rhythm.
The singer gained recognition after appearing on American Idol as a contestant, becoming the runner-up on the competition series back in 2009.
Along with dropping albums, Lambert has also toured with the famed band Queen over the years.
He has also taken on roles in musical productions including Cabaret.
‘I don’t know what I expected, to be honest with you,’ Lambert told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year as he reflected on his time on American Idol.
The singer explained that his ‘expectations were actually sort of practical’ and wanted to make a ‘really cool album.’

The star recalled signing with RCA when he got to the end of the competition at the time.
Lambert’s debut studio album was released in 2009 and titled For Your Entertainment.
‘I got to work with Max Martin and Shellback, among other amazing producers, and I got to make my first album, which was assisted by some of the best in the business. So I got my wish,’ he told the outlet.
In regards to his vocal skills, the singer admitted that he doesn’t know how many octaves he can belt out.

‘I think it’s four, five? I was technically trained, but I stopped taking lessons many years ago. I go by ear now.’
Lambert shared that he does ‘some warm-ups, and I do think that taking opera for a year as a teenager was a really good foundation.’
And in regards to his latest album, he explained that the music exists ‘in a darker world than some of my previous work.’
The music was also inspired by major changes in his life ‘and recontextualizing them in a whole new environment at this new point in my life.’
