The View co-host Ana Navarro criticized President Donald Trump for sharing an “inappropriate” and “offensive” image of himself as the pope, which was posted on the White House’s official social media accounts.
This AI-created image, shared over the weekend on X and Truth Social, depicted Trump in a white cassock and papal tiara, with a large golden cross hanging from his neck. This has upset many Catholics, especially considering they are in a period of mourning following Pope Francis’ recent death.
“I understand this is part of his tactic to steer the conversation away from his non-compliance with the Constitution,” Navarro commented during today’s episode of The View. “I know this is his method of provoking us into an emotional response, and despite that, I’ll address it. Though I am an imperfect Catholic, my faith remains important to me.”
“Him tweeting out an AI-created image on the White House official account of him posing as the pope is disrespectful,” she continued. “It is frankly, disgusting. And it is outrageous.”
Navarro pointed out that many “people of faith who actually do believe in God and believe in the rituals of the church” are “bereft” over the death of Francis, who passed away on April 21 of a stroke and irreversible cardiovascular arrest.
“This is one of the most solemn times in the Catholic Church when they are in the process of selecting a new pope,” she said. “So, all of those devout Catholics that voted for Donald Trump because they thought for some reason that he was a better representation of faith than other folks, I think you need to ask yourselves some questions and I think you need to ask the White House and Donald Trump some questions.”
Navarro ended her rant with one final zinger directly aimed at the POTUS.
“Trump, Mr. President, it’s ‘His Holiness, The Pope.’ Not, ‘His Oiliness, The Dope,’” she said.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
