Barcelona have reportedly dropped their pursuit of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, due to financial constraints.

Despite previous interest in the player, it is now unlikely that a deal will materialize, with Everton reportedly demanding a hefty fee of €60m for the Senegalese international.

Earlier reports had suggested that Barcelona, under Xavi Hernandez, were keen on signing Onana for a fee of €45m.

However, Everton’s insistence on the player’s valuation has led to doubts about the possibility of a potential transfer.

Onana’s impressive performances have also attracted attention from other Premier League clubs.

Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the situation.

The competition from these clubs, coupled with Everton’s steep asking price, add to Barcelona’s headache of signing the midfielder, Football Espana reports.

In light of these challenges, Barcelona are now turning their attention to alternative midfield targets.

Among them is Mats Wieffer, a Dutch international who plays as a defensive midfielder for Eredivisie side Feyenoord.

Despite facing competition from Atletico Madrid for Wieffer’s signature, Barcelona view him as a potentially more affordable option.
