In a candid revelation, comedian Jimmy Carr has shared that he adheres to a strict diet of eating only once a day due to his heightened awareness of maintaining his weight and staying fit.
During an appearance on Katherine Ryan’s popular podcast, “What’s My Age Again?”, the 53-year-old comedian discussed his ongoing struggles with body image. Known for his notable transformation over the years, Carr opened up about the measures he takes to manage his physique.
The episode, which marks the beginning of the podcast’s new season, dives into Carr’s eating habits. He admits to relying heavily on black coffee and water throughout the day, highlighting the minimal nature of his meals.
When questioned by Ryan about his body consciousness, Carr explained, “I’m quite aware of my body image. It’s not to the extent of having an eating disorder, but I am very focused on my weight and keeping in shape. Perhaps this isn’t the healthiest approach in the grand scheme of things.”
He further elaborated on the societal perceptions of body image, noting, “Body dysmorphia has traditionally been linked to women dealing with conditions like bulimia and anorexia.”
Jimmy Carr has revealed he ‘only eats once a day’ due to being ‘very conscious of weight and very conscious of staying sort of trim’ (pictured left, last year, right, in 2005)
In recent years, Carr has been open about his appearance, following several procedures to refine his look. His honesty about these changes reflects his ongoing journey with self-image.
Katherine asked: ‘So do you do intermittent fasting then?’, to which Jimmy responded: ‘I sort of naturally do that like I tend to eat once a day. [I’ve only had] Black coffee. Water. Yeah.’
She pushed: ‘When will be the first time that you eat something?’, leading Jimmy to reveal: ‘Uh, maybe this evening.’
Jimmy did however admit he has a weakness for junk food such as McDonald’s: ‘When travelling I love a McDonald’s. I love them…
‘Well, because their hygiene system is the same globally. So sometimes if you’re somewhere, you don’t know what the good restaurant is in this crazy Eastern European town you find yourself in…
‘You go, well, I know McDonald’s will be fine. I know I’ll be fine.’
After revealing he enjoys a plain cheeseburger or nuggets, he revealed how often he treats himself: ‘Oh, like once every couple of weeks, I guess. Something like that. That sounds reasonable. The poisons in the dose, I think with all of these things.’
The star has had filler, botox, veneers and a ‘painful’ hair transplant (pictured in 2023)
Aside from food, Jimmy also gave his ‘spicy take’ on drugs and legalisation: ‘I’ve got a spicy take on drugs. Here’s my take on drugs, like, certainly for marijuana…
‘I think for weed I think should be illegal for the under 30s. I think it’s a performance inhibiting drug. I think especially so many young men that are just sitting in basements smoking weed and they’re doing nothing…
‘And it robs people of their ambition in the crucial years. I think it should be legal 30 to 50. And then I think over 50 mandatory… Well because old men are taking all the cash. And the redistribution of wealth would be aided by men going slow down.’
Last year, Jimmy Carr admitted he is ‘a little bit addicted’ to cosmetic surgery after previously sharing all of the procedures he has had done.
The comedian poked fun at his drastically altered appearance as he said there’s ‘nothing I haven’t had done’ and credited ‘a list of surgeons’.
His image has changed drastically since he first hit screens in the early noughties
Speaking on Radio X, Jimmy said: ‘It is fun getting that stuff done, but it’s a little bit addictive. Because you sort of go… I mean, they say you can’t polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter. I’m making the best of what I got.’
When asked if he is done with the procedures, Jimmy made a joke reference to a bridge in Scotland where its completion is known to be a never-ending task.
‘Am I done? This is like the Forth Bridge. I would look surprised you said that but I’m no longer capable.’
He added: ‘I do look well but I can take no credit, there’s a list of surgeons.’
The star has had filler, botox, veneers and went on to discuss his painful hair transplant and what the procedure actually involves.
He said: ‘My hairline, I’ve gone forward quite a bit. So, I got the hair transplant. The thing with the hair transplant… people think there’s a donor…
‘I wasn’t ghoulishly waiting by the phone for news of a motorcycle accident so I could nick a quiff off a corpse.
‘That is not how it works. What they do is they take the hair from the back there, the very back where you’ve got loads of hair, and they pluck it out individually and then they replant it wherever you need it. For me, up the top here.’
He added: ‘It works! The only downside is, you know that sensation you get where the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? Well, now when I get that, I look like Tintin!’
