Djordje Petrovic has opened up about the pain he and his teammates are feeling following their Carabao Cup narrow defeat to Liverpool.

Despite producing several impressive saves in his first final for Chelsea, the Blues goalkeeper couldn’t prevent Virgil van Dijk’s late extra-time goal that sealed the win for Liverpool.

In an interview with Chelsea media, Petrovic said, “The feeling is very painful. It was a first final for a lot of us, also here at Wembley.

“The atmosphere was amazing and we really felt the Chelsea supporters with us.”

He however, stated the need to use the setback as motivation. “We must use this feeling because this is a new generation and we want to keep the success of this club.”

Reflecting on the game, Petrovic highlighted missed opportunities that could have won the game for Chelsea.

“The team put in a lot of effort and we had a lot of opportunities, we hit the post, and we had chances to maybe kill the game but we couldn’t do it.”

“Now we have to get our heads up and think about Wednesday against Leeds as that is an important game for us in the FA Cup,” he added.

Chelsea will be looking to bounce back quickly from this defeat and continue their quest for silverware in the FA Cup.

The defeat to Liverpool is a repeat of the 2022 Carabao Cup final, when Chelsea also lost to Jurgen Klopp’s men at Wembley.
