David Beckham welcomed James Corden on his brand-new chat show after speculation arose about the latter’s absence from the footballer’s 50th birthday celebration.

The two celebrities have shared a strong friendship over the years, but James, at 46, was conspicuously missing from David’s 50th birthday dinner held at Core, a restaurant in Notting Hill, on Saturday evening.

His absence prompted much chatter over whether the once best friends have fallen out, but the pair have now reunited for a new project.

Amid the speculation, David was joined by comedian James and Joseph Fiennes on the second episode of his Paramount+ show, Beckham & Friends Live.

Even though James missed the glamorous event, the duo came together just a few days after to enjoy the PSG vs Arsenal match live on Wednesday for the latest segment of his chat show.

After the episode aired, David took to Instagram to share a photograph of himself beaming alongside James and actor Joseph, 54, as he thanked them for taking part.

He penned in a caption: ‘Thank you @j_corden and Joseph Fiennes for joining me on Beckham & Friends Live tonight.

‘Another great game and we have two very deserving finalists in PSG and Inter Milan… but I know who I’m supporting. See you in Munich.’

David’s sporting chat show has seen him joined by friends to commentate on all the action from the UEFA Champions League semi-finals live from CBS Sports’ London studios.

He was joined by Stanley Tucci and Guy Ritchie to watch Inter Milan’s 4-3 triumph over Barcelona, and saw PSG achieve a 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Wednesday night.

David will then jet over to Germany for the final on May 31 to watch PSG face-off against Inter Milan in the much-anticipated clash.

His on-screen reunion with James comes just days after he did not attend David’s 50th birthday party on Saturday, despite being in London just days later to film with the footballer.

David’s A-list pals including Tom Cruise, 62, Gordon Ramsay, 58, Eva Longoria, 50, and Gary Neville, 50, all flew in for the big occasion with their partners.

However, James, who has known the footballer for more than 15 years, was notably missing from the star-studded bash.

One observer said: ‘You look at the people there and James wasn’t, it was quite the surprise.’

James and David first met back in 2009 when they were filming a sketch for a Sports Relief fundraiser and soon after, James admitted he was starstruck by the former England captain.

He said: ‘I just wanted to lick him. Honestly, he was unbelievably nice.’

Always a huge fan of Beckham, James gushed of their friendship on the Jonathan Ross show in 2010: ‘We went for dinner, we were hanging out, I was like ‘oh my God, I am trying to hold it together’.

‘I can’t speak highly enough of him.’

As their friendship continued to grow, the pair would often be seen out for dinner together in London.

By December 2011, they’d become so close that David played peacemaker during a row between Prince Harry and James after the royal made a cruel comment about the actor’s appearance during a night out in London.

In 2012, there were rumours James had ditched his oldest pals for his new best friend and asked David to be best man at his wedding to Julia Carey.

James was said to have been struggling to choose between Gavin and Stacey co-star Mat Horne and former flat mate who introduced him to his wife, Dominic Cooper.

Throughout the years, David has regularly starred on James’s projects including his Late Late Show and podcasts.

In fact, David was a guest during the first week of James’ shows which were aired on US network, CBS.

During the episode, they took part in a skit where they were both wearing underwear – with James poking fun at himself not looking as svelte as Becks. v

In April 2023, when James’ final episode of the Late Late Show aired, David shared a slew of throwback snaps of ‘very funny memories’ from his appearance on the American series on Instagram before welcoming his friend home to London.

A few months later for James’ 45th birthday, David posted a throwback snap of the friends with the caption, ‘Happy Birthday mate’.

However, James failed to mark his friend’s 50th last week on social media and was also a no-show at his celebrations.

The former footballer had already celebrated with a black tie pre-birthday bash in Miami and a family gathering at his £10million home in the Cotswolds.

The family also flew out of Oxford on the Friday for a wine-soaked stop in Bordeaux, before heading to Paris for a swanky dinner, before the celebrations culminated with his A-list London party on Saturday.
