Márquez was among the “hundreds of political prisoners” who were released following the U.S.-led efforts that led to the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January.

The president noted that Alejandra “feared she would never be reunited with her uncle” and worried for her own safety before the U.S. military intervention.

“But since the raid, we have worked with new leadership, and we have ordered the closure of that vile prison and released hundreds of political prisoners already,” Trump said.
