An estate agent’s decision to list a four-bedroom flat in Mayfair at a staggering rental price of £608,333 per month has triggered a wave of incredulity and outrage across the internet.

Situated at 22 Hanover Square, this expansive and modern apartment is nestled in one of London’s most coveted neighborhoods. The W1 postcode, known for its prime location, places the flat ideally between Soho and Kensington, with Oxford Circus and Bond Street just around the corner.

Despite the flat’s undeniable appeal, potential renters are balking at the astronomical price tag. The cost far eclipses the average rental rates, which stand at £2,712 per month within London and £1,365 outside the city.

While Mayfair is renowned for its luxury real estate, this particular listing by Nest Seekers International surpasses the area’s typical rental prices by an astonishing £550,000, as per the latest figures from Rightmove.

Adding to its allure, the property boasts four bathrooms and is fully furnished, featuring a range of high-end amenities.

The plush property also has four bathrooms and comes fully furnished with a host of luxury fittings.

Other fancy features of the flat include a cocktail bar, balcony with views over the London skyline, and an open plan fitted kitchen complete with a breakfast bar.

And although it has been on the market since May without being snapped up, the estate agents aren’t shy in their mammoth estimation, with the listing calling it ‘a luxurious blend of British heritage and contemporary sophistication’.

The ad listing for the penthouse continues: ‘This exquisite four-bedroom property boasts a private terrace offering stunning 180 degree city views, perfect for both entertaining guests and enjoying peaceful moments of relaxation.

‘Step inside to discover bespoke interiors, meticulously crafted by artisans to provide a timeless elegance that seamlessly blends with modern amenities.

‘With hand-painted wallpapers, gilded finishes, and attention to detail evident throughout, the Mayfair Penthouse offers a truly unique living experience in the heart of the city.

‘Indulge in unparalleled luxury and make this opulent retreat your own’, the listing concluded.

Demand in London has surged in recent months, bucking the trend in the rest of the nation where prices have stagnated or fallen.

But many were not convinced that the property was a catch.

In fact, many on social media were left wondering who would be able to afford such a property – and why they would spend it on renting a place instead of buying.

This week Reddit users met the listing on Rightmove with both shock and horror.

One commented: ‘Small wonder it’s been on the market since May. That CAN’T be right, surely to God?’

Another joked: ‘I’d defo need to take on a lodger.’

Others noted that better value for money might be available elsewhere, with one person saying: ‘You could buy several castles up in Scotland for that sort of money!!’

One person quipped: ‘140k a week seems reasonable for Mayfair. It’s only 20k a day!’

According to Rightmove statistics, the average price to rent a one bedroom flat per month typically ranges from around £2,700 to £3,500.

Prices for bigger properties like two and three bedroom flats can easily exceed £10,000 per month.
