Now all in their thirties, the five performers proved they could still command a crowd as they delivered a high-energy medley of 'Girlfriend', 'Gone' and 'Bye Bye Bye'.

One night only: Seven years after N'Sync disbanded, the hugely popular group reunited onstage—but has no plans to tour again
The five-piece act enjoyed an extraordinary run that lasted nearly a decade after emerging in the mid-1990s, but they had previously insisted there would be no reunion.
Their surprise appearance quickly became the defining moment of the annual awards ceremony.
Timberlake, who went on to build a major solo career, was also presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award by host Jimmy Fallon.

A trip back in time: Fans loved the VMA performance, although the choreography appeared more demanding for the group than for Justin, who kept dancing at the highest level

Great to see them again: Unfortunately, the reunion was only a brief journey into the past
Fallon praised the talented 32-year-old star, who had married actress Jessica Biel the previous year.
'Over the past two decades, he has entertained us and become a legend. I'm talking hit after hit after hit after hit,' the comedian said.
Timberlake accepted the honor with characteristic humility, saying: 'I don't deserve the award, but I'm not going to give it back. I'm taking this home.'
He continued: 'Half of the moonmen I've ever won, I won with those four guys right there.'
Leading the way: Justin's career flourished after N'Sync split, while his former bandmates followed different paths
'So above all else, I'm going to share this—we can keep it at my house—but I'm going to share this award with them. (N'Sync)'
He also used his acceptance speech to remember his grandfather, who had died earlier that year.
Wearing a black suit and matching hat accented with a red feather, Timberlake powered through a rapid-fire medley of his solo hits before the other four members of N'Sync joined him, launching into 'Bye Bye Bye'.

During their peak, the boyband were celebrated for elaborate, tightly choreographed routines.
Although time had passed and the members had filled out slightly, their intricate footwork remained impressive.
Smartly dressed in black and white, they delivered energetic showmanship that could rival even One Direction.
Then and now: N'Sync pictured at the height of their fame looked almost unrecognizable compared with their reunion appearance
The performance delighted longtime followers, while Twitter filled with nostalgic messages from celebrity fans.
Model Brooklyn Decker recalled that, at 13, she had considered the group her idols while growing up in Ohio.
Television host Ellen DeGeneres revealed that her wife, Portia de Rossi, was thrilled by the reunion.
Tennis champion Serena Williams also said the performance transported her back to her youth.
TV journalist Katie Couric appeared to be joking when she suggested that Timberlake needed to learn how to dance.
Celebrity admirer: Brooklyn Decker revealed that she had been a devoted N'Sync fan as a teenager
Famous fans: Portia de Rossi, Ellen DeGeneres's wife, was visibly delighted by the band's return
Despite the enthusiasm, a permanent N'Sync reunion appears unlikely as each member has established a separate life and career.
Lance Bass, 34, moved into acting and became an advocate for gay rights after coming out in 2006.
JC Chasez, 37, concentrated on songwriting and has worked with artists including Girls Aloud, the Backstreet Boys and Basement Jaxx.
Joey Fatone, 36, developed a career in television, while the group's oldest member, Chris Kirkpatrick, 41, found success as a voice actor.
Timberlake ultimately achieved the broadest profile, building a multifaceted career across music, television and film.
