Mercy Chinwo files lawsuit against secular musician, Obidiz, demands N2billion as damages

Secular singer, Obidiz risks paying N2 billion compensation to gospel artiste, Mercy Chinwo or he will lose his first hit song for using her name and image in a derogatory manner.

GISTLOVER had reported earlier that she filed a lawsuit against him over unauthorized use of her name on the secular song titled ‘Mercy Chinwo’.

In the lyrics of the single which is garnering massive streams, Obidiz did a compare and contrast of how he would not commit to a lady that acts like Mercy in church but turns to American rapper, Cardi B in the club.

He talked about an imaginary lady giving her body (cake) to him without asking him for commitment.

The rising artiste mentioned Chinwo’s name thrice in different verses referencing the same behaviour.

The lyrics said; “She dey share me the cake o, and she no want commitment. Mercy Chinwo for church o but for club na Cardi B set. I no go commit o. No commitment at all, Bad girl I no go commit o. No commitment at all Yeah….

Another verse reads; “The kind things wey dey burst my head, She dey share me the cake o and she no want commitment. Mercy Chinwo for church o but for club na Cardi B set…

Another verse read; “I no go commit o. No commitment at all Bad girl. Mercy chinwo for church but if see her for club yeah…

The context in which Mercy Chinwo’s name was used is what provoked her to drag Obidiz to court and demand N2billion compensation.

In the suit filed on March 23 and served to the secular musician by Chinwo’s lawyers, Obidiz was warned to cease and desist any further usage of the gospel star’s name or image on any of his promotional content and music.

He was therefore, asked to take down all photos, promotional content and music he posted from all streaming services bearing Mercy Chinwo’s name and pictures.

Failure to comply with their requests, would result in him being dragged to court and the legal system ordering him to pay 2 billion naira in damages.
