The world of Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) seems far from harmonious. In the initial trailer for the upcoming Europe-centric spin-off series “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” Ziva is seen at a therapist’s office. During her session, she reviews her job situation and her role as a mother to Tony and Ziva’s daughter, Tali (Isla Gie). While everything seems fine on that front, the therapist then inquires about Tony. Ziva reflects on their on-again-off-again relationship, revealing that Tony hasn’t visited her home in “a while,” confirming later in the trailer that their relationship is once again rocky.
In the “NCIS” episode “In the Wind,” Ziva left her team to join Tony and Tali in Paris, leading “Tiva” enthusiasts to believe that all had been well since she completed her final mission and exited the intelligence world for good. However, this first look hints at a different reality, showing that Tony and Ziva have been apart. They are so estranged from their former lives that they haven’t even shared with Tali the truth about their dangerous careers. As the trailer unfolds, they are thrust back into their tumultuous past when Tony is betrayed by a trusted ally, forcing them to flee across Europe.
Will Tony and Ziva get married in the spin-off?
The situation between Tony and Ziva is evidently complex as they reconnect in the spin-off, but the trailer supplies plenty of signs that their future might be brighter. The challenges seem to strengthen their bond, with Tony expressing, “Tali couldn’t ask for a better mother, and I couldn’t ask for a better… safe house roomie,” during a candle-lit dinner, bringing a smile to Ziva’s face. The most telling indication of a hopeful ending comes when Ziva appears in a wedding dress in scenes towards the trailer’s conclusion.
She’s seen running up some stairs in the white dress in one shot, and punching someone wearing an interpol vest in another, so it’s clear that the ceremony descends into chaos. Of course, they might be staging a wedding to draw their enemies out (it wouldn’t be the strangest thing about Tony and Ziva’s relationship), but it’s also quite possible that the two of them finally tie the knot, a treat that fans of the couple have been waiting for ever since Ziva turned up alive after being presumed dead back on “NCIS.”
Either way, we’re clearly going to get some romantic moments between the two, which will be music to the ears of fans — one thing that’s always had “NCIS” fans scratching their heads is that Tony and Ziva’s romance is mostly an off-screen one. We’ll just have to wait to find out if the couple’s love story finally pans out like we’ve always hoped it would. “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but the trailer promises it will debut on Paramount+ at some point in fall 2025.
