Strong pitching performance helps Savannah Christian reach semifinals

The Savannah Christian baseball team has successfully moved forward to the Class 3A-A Private state semifinals by defeating Greater Atlanta Christian with a score of 9-7 on Thursday.

Savannah Christian got a boost in the bottom of the second inning thanks to some errors from the opposing team. With players in scoring positions on second and third, Christian attempted a squeeze play. The batter failed to make contact with the ball, leading to the runner at third being trapped in a rundown. However, the third baseman’s throw ended up off target, allowing the runner to safely reach home.

Following this, the player from second base advanced to third but stumbled. GAC attempted to get him out but committed another mistake with a bad throw, resulting in the second run of the inning and setting the score at 2-0 in favor of Savannah Christian.

In the bottom of the fourth, Savannah Christian led 3-1. Starting pitcher Dawson Kelly was up to the plate with the bases loaded. He hit a single just out of the reach of the third baseman, who was a part of the drawn-in infield. The stroke scored two more runs and Savannah Christian went up 5-1.

Savannah Christian travels to Wesleyan on May 13 to compete in the state semifinals. This will be team’s first road trip of the state tournament.
