The deeply personal and concealed significance of the flowers featured in Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s lavish engagement photoshoot has been unveiled. Surprisingly, these floral choices might disclose more about their relationship than initially expected.
In an exclusive for the Daily Mail, two floral specialists discussed how the abundant roses, peonies, and hydrangeas selected for the shoot symbolize more than just beauty. These blossoms are actually ideal for marking the beginning of their matrimonial journey.
Morgan Westerberg-Jackson, a floriographer and the owner of Blomstra Floral Co., shared insights with the Daily Mail about the arrangements, which included roses, hydrangea, ivy, willow, and smokebush, possibly highlighting the couple’s ‘tender and enduring’ bond.
Not only that, but the meaning behind two of the flowers could even be a subtle shout-out to Taylor’s musical career.
“All the flowers combined narrate a tale of lasting love, emotional intimacy, and mutual protection—a reflection of being each other’s ‘soft place to land,'” Westerberg-Jackson speculated.
“There’s an underlying thread of hope and perseverance amidst the greens. The blooms come together to depict a relationship that is both gentle and steadfast, enchanting yet grounded. The cotinus/smokebush particularly caught my attention for its associations with growth and transformation—a nod to Taylor’s ‘Eras’.

“While Travis and Taylor might not have been aware of each flower’s significance, it’s enchanting to think that humanity can innately connect with flora and perceive their symbolic meanings,” Westerberg-Jackson reflected, considering the global folklore that lends flowers their symbolism.
Morgan estimates around 1,300 roses were used for the shoot and she suspects they will reappear at the wedding.
‘Going off of the depth and symbolism in the engagement florals, I expect a wedding dripping with magical, multi-layered arrangements. I believe roses will almost certainly play a starring role again, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see more nods to transformation, growth, and timeless devotion woven in. I think we can expect to see flowers as the main decor, giving a “rose garden” feel, and likely a lot of texture.’
Alexandra Floro, a floral artist and owner of the floral and event production agency UnderNewMGMT, also sees a deeper meaning in the arrangement.
The peonies and roses signify love and marriage and are classic favorites for romantic celebrations, Floro says.
‘At first glance, one could assume that the florals chosen for Taylor and Travis’ engagement were merely decorative. The style of the arch with the Rococo/Baroque urns on pillars are all very on trend for wedding and engagement florals,’ Floro told Daily Mail.
‘In the engagement photo, garden roses, peonies, panicled hydrangeas, and white delphinium are prominently used. I think that Roses and Peonies were used for their popularity and overall typical symbolism of love and marriage. They are the go-to’s for anything romance related.
‘Garden roses are seen throughout the engagement set up. These are typically way more expensive than your standard rose variety, thus showcasing the wealth behind the love of Taylor and Kelce. Peonies have always symbolized a happy marriage, wealth, bliss, and prosperity. They are one of the most popular wedding florals for these reasons.

‘Delphiniums typically represent lightness, levity, reaching towards something higher due to the flower’s height,’ she said.
As for the ‘mighty hydrangea,’ Floro sees this as a representation of pop superstar Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Kelce fusing their lives together.
‘Taylor is cementing American Pop Music with American football and hydrangeas are a perfect representation of this process: gratitude, wholeness, and collective abundance for the future,’ she said.
‘Taylor and Travis are not just solidifying their romantic bond with this engagement, they are constructing something bigger: a cultural phenomenon that combines the spectacle of sport and performance with the cornerstones of American life: marriage and community.
‘If I was really to put my tin foil hat on,’ she continued, ‘the true message of Taylor Swift’s new chapter is hidden within the hydrangeas. The flower’s beauty only really comes to fruition due to the tiny florets that cluster together.’

She noted that the flowers have become symbolic of how marriages and relationships ‘aren’t made of one grand gesture but rather countless small decisions that eventually make up the whole experience.
‘White hydrangeas can be seen in the engagement photo and typically white hydrangeas are preferred florals for weddings as they are seen as ethereal, pure, clean, representing honor and hopefulness for the new life ahead.’
